We caught up with "Joe Young" for just a few minutes to get an interview while he is working on his newest Street Album which includes some heavy duty names. I have heard songs like from New York to Germany but this is "A Global Trotter on a fast break - Joe Young is making moves like a Koby Bryant going for his six ring!" - Joe Anan "The HYPE Magazine"
You are now working on your street album in LA, could you tell us who´s all involved in the production of the album?
All I can tell you for right now is that The Great DJ Khalil will be involved in the production of the Album. He has worked with people like Pink, Aloe Blacc, Dr Dre, Eminem & more so I think his guidance will be great on this project. Krondon from “Strong Arm Steady” will be contributing music as well.
I also have a young hungry producer by the name of “Audio Jones” working on a few records for me; he has worked with Trina, Iceberg, Brisco and more. I got “Illmind” contributing beats as well, so this will be a crazy project.
Can’t forget my man “Mic Flash”, he will produce something for the project. He’s another artist I have great interest in, as well as “Cartune Beatz” who produced my Street single "Put my City on" featuring “Crooked I” and “K Young”.
The Artists I worked with just contribute Greatness! I have the Game, Rick Ross, Raekwon, Jay Rock, Crooked I, Freeway, K Young, Mike Bless and more on the Album it’s just a well rounded Project that will be Skip free. You can put it in and let it play. I still got a few surprises for you on who I worked with. Just know it’s a Superior Project.
Will this album be for sale or is it a free downloadable mixtape?
The album will be available for Sell via Empire Distributions.
Are you still working with Shadyville?
At this Point I really don’t work with Shadyville anymore. I had a good time with them but I moved on. We weren’t seeing Eye to Eye in a few aspects of business.
Right now I work with Icewater Inc, Backdoor Movements, Black Wall Street as well as MMG. I also got a good Business Relationship with Leap Industries as well as Larceny Syndicate.
I got my own Edition at BMG Rights Publishing as well as a record deal with Embassy One/Warner in Europe. I also have a situation with Empire Distributions in California which allows me to put out Indie Projects. So I got a pretty good Structure to get my music out there
How has the last 7 years of your career helped you get to this point in your career?
The last 7 years of my career allowed me to grow musically as well as the business side of things, I was able to form my own Label in association with a few partners of mine. I also was able to get records done with people that are “Major Players in the Game”. I have grown a lot and made many positive things happen for myself as well as my team.
Are you at a planning stage to tour in America?
I got a show coming up August 13th at the Pyramid in New York City along with M Reck, Superstar Jay and a few other talented artists. One of my business partners Smit CEO of Backdoor Movements put that together, I also have a show in Germany August 31st of at the Fast and Furious Carjam in Schlüsselfeld, Germany with a crazy lineup as well. I got my people booking more dates now so this will be an interesting year for me.
How do you feel about the Canadian scene?
I think the Hip Hop Scene in Canada is great. I know an artist by the name of “JD Era” which is signed to Raekwon´s Icewater Inc Canada Label; he’s making noise, watch out for that Canamerica Project presented by Raekwon & Icewater Inc. Another artist on the come up by the name of “Big Troopz” which is managed by my dude Smit just released a video with the homie “Spider Loc” from Cali , he’s doing interesting things. I have a few associates in Montreal over at Hitlab which is a company owned by Akon which I hold business ties with so i would love to do more Work in Canada.
How would you describe the club scene in reference to what deejays spin in comparison to LA for example?
DJ`s in LA mostly spin YG or Problem or the homie Game, you hear some Young Sam every now and then but I really couldn’t tell you because I don’t make music for the clubs that much.
The club scene in LA is something that’s very unique and it’s too much to explain right now being the fact that I don’t go clubbing in LA or elsewhere like that.
I just focus on my music and that’s it. But the most poppin spot in LA right now is ran by the homie Game. He has his own club now called "Dream" Y´all should go there and enjoy!
How would you describe your music?
“My Music is My Music”. The listener has to make an description of how he/she Interprets the sound or the words. It feels different than the next man´s music. I got different things to talk about because I come from a different background as well as a different culture; my rhyme style is quite unorthodox. It’s just different.
When will your album be released? Will it be released globally simultaneous with Europe and America?
Being that we live in a Digital Era the album which is more of a street album then an traditional album will come to “Life” the same day globally.
Have you ventured into opportunities in China as American Hip-Hop is very successful there?
I have a few opportunities in China. My last mixtape "The Great Ape" was released in China as well and I’ve done a record with the “Teriyaki Boys” before. So if we have the right record we´ll be in China. I will be in China with a fellow artist by the name of WestBam in September.
Is there any artist that has mentored you or influenced you the most over the last couple of years?
I have a few people that have mentored me throughout the last years but in particular I have to say Geter K (VP of Maybach Music and CEO of Muscle Management) has given me the most advice. Raekwon has been a mentor to me as well. Raekwon´s brother is a strong adviser to me as well as Mark Brown former Head of A&R at Def Jam. I got a new partner now as well he’s from Brooklyn his name is Smit. You’ll hear about him real soon. I cant forget Taydoe (the Games Manager) he has shown me lots of love and gave me good advice.
Is your music geared more toward Suburbia or is it more Urban.
It’s geared towards anybody that likes good music and appreciate hard work, honesty and dedication.
How would you describe your fanbase?
My fanbase is loyal, grown, and just loves good music provided by a Real Champ as well as a real Artist on the forefront. My fanbase don’t take shit from no one. My fanbase is my family and I love each and every one of them!
If there is one place in the world to live and one car in the world to have ; where and what would it be for you.
